U13's League Finals report
06/09/2021
The first game yesterday in Drumhowan was Donaghmoyne Division 6 team v Corduff in the shield final. The Donaghmoyne team included a mix of 12 & 11 year old boys who had played very well in their last few league games. Corduff, a bigger & stronger team, started well & were in a good lead at the first water break however the Donaghmoyne boys rafflied in the second quarter to go at half time level. Again Corduff started well in the 2nd half & scored a couple of quick goals to take a commanding lead but the Donaghmoyne boys did not give up & battled back to put Corduff under pressure however they ran out of time & lost by 5 points. The team would like to wish a speedy recovery to Oran Finnegan who suffered a broken collar bone just before half time & we would like to thank Corduff physio Jackie McGarrell who helped Oran on the field.
The 2nd game saw the Division 1 team take on Aughnamullen in the cup final. The game started at a high tempo & high intensity with both sides working very hard to retain possession. Aughnamullen took a number of long range scores & they held a 5 point lead at half time. The Donaghmoyne team worked hard to remain in touching distance in the first half & were unlucky not to capitalise on a number of goal chances that would have seen them reel in Aughnamullen's lead. Aughnamullen stretched their lead in the 3rd quarter however Donaghmoyne hit back with 2 quick goals. As the game entered the final stages Donaghmoyne suffered a couple of injuries & a red card and left themselves with too much to do. Aughnmaullen retained their lead & were deserving winners. The team would like to wish a speedy recovery to players who suffered injuries and hopefully they will be back on the field playing over the next few weeks.
