Division 1 Cup Donaghmoyne 5-6 Emyvale 1-8 The Division 1 team saw action on Saturday in Pairc Fontenoy. It was a glorious sunny morning but with slippy underfoot and handling conditions as Donaghmoyne took on their visitors from North Monaghan. The teams had met twice already this year and both games could have gone either way. It was a cagey low scoring first half with both teams teasing each other out. Donaghmoyne had the tonic of an early goal and at times rode their luck. An outstanding save from their keeper & a missed Emyvale penalty ( which hit the post) helped their cause, while a great team goal in the 2nd quarter saw them in the 1/2 time whistle leading 2-3 to 0-4. The 2nd half began with another well taken team goal for the home side - and a seemingly unassailable lead of 8 points. However the visitors stormed back, and the water break saw only 2 pts between the side, 3-4 to 1-8 . A rip roaring final quarter was in store and the home side showed great character and no little skill. Another well taking team goal & some determined defending saw them drive on to the final whistle and secure a 5-6 to 1-8 win. This sees the lads into a cup semi final in a fortnights time. Division 5 Donaghmoyne 4-14 Scotstown 2-7 Another lovely morning in Donaghmoyne, saw the home side welcome Scotstown in their 1st game since securing the League title. As with the previous days game, it was a low scoring first half with little to separate the sides on the scoreboard . Donaghmoyne took an early lead before a Scotstown goal on the break saw them jump ahead. A calm response and 3 unanswered points from the home side saw the teams level at the break - 0-7 to 1-4. A storming 3rd quarter performance from the home side really turned this game. Tight in defence and more accurate than before in attack, 3-4 without reply saw them surge ahead and into a position they wouldn’t relinquish, leading - 3-11 to 1-4 at the 2nd water break. Scotstown rallied in the final quarter and hit back but the lads held firm to see out the game on a 4-14 to 2-7 score line . The victory sees the Division 5 team into the latter stages of the Cup. With 3 teams in this group it means they must wait to learn their fate and whether they get drawn in a semi final or are straight through to a final . A good weekend for the u15 teams ! 🔴⚪️
