Seniors: The seniors made a winning start to the season away to Monaghan Harps on Sunday. In a game where scores were hard to come by, a hard working Donaghmoyne side were more clinical in the final third to run out 0-11 to 0-6 winners.
Stephen Finnegan opened the scoring in the 4th minute before the hosts hit back with two points in the 6th and 8th minute to edge ahead. A second Finnegan point was followed by an Aaron Courtney point to restore the Donaghmoyne lead which was extended further with 18 gone when Mickey Murnaghan and Niall Meegan both pointed to move the Fontenoys ahead by 3. The Harps pulled one back before a quick-fire brace from Conor Burns moved Donaghmoyne into a four-point lead. A Liam McDonald free just before halftime left the score 0-8 to 0-3.
The opening exchanges of the second half were scrappy with neither team able to get any attacking rhythm. Liam McDonald opened the second half scoring in the 42nd minute and Conor Burns scored his third of the game in the 44th minute to move Donaghmoyne 7 clear. The hosts hit a two pointer with 12 left to play before Liam McDonald scored his third of the match to move Donaghmoyne 6 points ahead. With the clock winding down Harps were starting to exert some pressure and Keeper Ronan McDonald was forced into making a couple of smart saves to make sure Donaghmoyne left Gavin Duffy Park with the win. Well done lads on a good start to the campaign.
Reserves: The Div 3 Reserve team had an impressive home win on Saturday evening with a 0-18 to 1-7 win over Inniskeen.
